Valentino: Master of Couture Exhibition

The second part of the exhibition – the couture fashion show where roles are reversed with visitors walking the catwalk to view Valentino haute couture designs.

I had the chance to attend the Valentino Master of Couture Exhibition at Somerset House, London. It was interesting especially for those like me who are studying the history of fashion. Valentino Garavani is an Italian fashion designer and founder of the Valentino SpA brand and company. This exhibition is celebrating the life and work of Valentino and it presented 130 exquisite haute couture designs worn by icons such as Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Grace Kelly, Sophia Loren and Gwyneth Paltrow. The tour was divided into three sections:  Valentino’s world through photographs from his personal archive, offering an intimate portrait of the life, then a couture fashion show where roles are reversed with visitors walking the catwalk to view Valentino haute couture designs and finally a section that shows the processes of crafting couture exemplified by the wedding dress of Princess Marie Chantal of Greece. During the second part of the exhibition we were given small tour brochures where we could find a small descriptive sentence for each of the one hundred and thirty Valentino haute couture designs.
